Job Title: HS & JH  Librarian

Employment Type: Full Time, 10 months, benefits-eligible

Job Summary:

Paideia is an independent, progressive  pre-K through 12 college-preparatory school in the Emory University area of Atlanta. The high school enrolls approximately 465 students. The curriculum consists of extensive offerings in English, social sciences, mathematics, foreign languages, natural and physical sciences, art, and music. Class size averages 15 students.

 

The HS & JH Librarian’s main responsibilities will include curating and maintaining the main library for high school and junior high students, staying current with library issues around space and technology, collaborating with teachers and students in the latest in research including issues around AI, coordinating author visits with the JH and HS through our endowed Pepperdene funds, developing a warm and welcoming presence in the main library, and establishing a strong presence in the JH with curated books, research help, and book clubs. We hope that this position significantly contributes to the culture of a love of reading within the school community.

 

This position includes checking in students for the study hall during specific periods in the main library and leading a  HS advisory group that meets once a week. It also includes either teaching one class in the humanities or other related field either during our HS Long Term ( August-Dec / Feb-May)  or Short Term (month-long classes in Jan and May) or JH Short Term (May). Faculty may also choose to sponsor clubs and sports.

Required Skills / Abilities:

We are looking for someone who has a minimum of 3-5 years in library and teaching experience. While a college degree in a related field is required, a master’s in library science or other related degree is preferred. Important personal qualities include a love of learning, interest in and demonstrated ability to teach and support adolescents, an engaging teaching style, flexibility, organizational skill, energy, collegiality, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in multiple departments and levels of the school.
